The New Zealand Society for Mountain Medicine (NZSFMM) is a non-profit organisation bringing together all those who practice or have an interest in providing healthcare within challenging outdoors terrain, in Aotearoa – New Zealand. We welcome into our community everyone regardless of their medical and outdoors skills. NZSFMM is a space for discussion, education, knowledge sharing and support.
Our mission is to advocate and support the development of mountain medicine in Aotearoa New Zealand to improve national capability to access, treat and evacuate casualties in the mountain environment.
The Society was formed in 2020. If you are interested in medicine in the outdoors, in particular in the mountains and broadly understood wilderness areas, get in touch.
Note: In 2023 the Society ran an Elective Course in Mountain Medicine for final year medical students. We have since received many inquires about future courses. At the moment, the Society decided not to run the elective in 2025. The decision about running the course in 2026 hasn’t been made yet. We thank everyone in their interest so far!
