We are very happy to report that New Zealand Society for Mountain Medicine is now an Incorporated Society. You will find our constitution if you search the Incorporated Societies Register on the New Zealand Companies Office website. Many thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this happen!
At our 2022 AGM the formal membership structure of the Society was agreed. An annual subscription fee will be introduced for a few reasons:
- Right now, we don’t know who our members are and that means we don’t have an efficient means of communication
- A Society is made up by its members and members will drive and determine activity
- The Society needs some money to make things happen
Cost should not be a barrier to anyone who wishes to formalise their membership.
Thus a member determined koha/ donation allows everyone to pay what they wish.
A suggested amount for eg a full-time employed medical professional may be $25/year, for people earning a living wage or students we would be happy with $5 .
For current members of the google discussion forum we already have all your details on our database but we need full name and preferred email address.
We will then gradually work out the preferred platform for communication but for the time being the forum will continue.
We would like everyone who already considers themselves members to join before September 2022. This year’s annual subscriptions will be valid to April 2023 in and in the future May will be the renewal month.
You may ask “What will you get for you membership?” The answer to that is that the best way to find out is to join and become involved!

The Society now has a professional Zoom account and we look forward to hosting informal discussion groups and educational events on this platform for our members.
